Hi! I’m AJ McCalla – piano teacher, composer and performer.
I have been playing piano since the age of 4 and composing classical music for nearly as long.
I attended Quest University Canada, in British Columbia, where I studied Art History and Classical Composition. I have a keen interest in, and extensive knowledge of, music theory and the history of its development.
While at university, I worked as an accompanist and performer. During those years, I discovered my passion for teaching others the art of piano playing, which brings me to the present day. My current home studio is in Ashland, Oregon – in the beautiful Rogue Valley. And, most recently, I am a proud member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
My Passion for Teaching Piano
My strength as a teacher is striving to know what each individual student needs and what will help them have the most rewarding and enjoyable experience learning piano. I encourage creativity and artistic expression. I believe in creating well-rounded musicians who can play beautifully, as well as accurately.
It is never too late nor too early to start learning to play expressively and to create your own personal interpretations of pieces! If you’re already learning independently with a music book, that’s great! I can help you take your playing skills to a new level with the personal touch of lessons.
The Pace
All lessons are held on a weekly basis / four lessons per month. Lessons are 30 minutes long for beginners. Longer lessons are available for more experienced piano students.
The Cost
$35 per 30 minute lesson.
The Studio
In-person lessons are held in my home studio in Ashland, Oregon, where students will learn on a newly restored 1908 Kranich & Bach baby grand piano in a room with beautiful views over the Rogue Valley.
